Nurse Aide/Home Health Aide (CNA)
COURSE DESCRIPTION

There are two courses associated with the Nurse Aide/Home Health Aide program.  Students enrolling in either of the courses must complete the Health & Safety Clinical Requirements before enrollment.  In addition,  all students enrolling in the NA/HHA Program must be fingerprinted and cleared of all criminal convictions before they can be certified.

HEOC 180 Nurse Aide/Home Health Aide is a 13 unit course consisting of a total of 144 hours of lecture and 288 hours of clinical experience.  This course is offered in the Fall and Spring semesters.

The course is designed to prepare students to perform the basic nursing skills required in acute hospitals, long-term facilities, and home health agencies.  Special emphasis is placed on health care provisions and modifications in the community health care settings.  The State Department of Health approves this course, and certificates will be issued upon successful completion of the course.  Students are then eligible for the state competency examination for certification.

HEOC 181 Nurse Aide is a 9-unit course consisting of a total of 96 hours of lecture and 192 hours of clinical experience.  This course is offered during the Summer session.

The course is designed to prepare students to perform the basic skills required of a nurse aide.  Course content consists of theory, laboratory, and clinical experience in long-term care facilities.  The course is approved by the State Department of Health Services.  A certificate will be issued upon successful completion of the course.  Students are then eligible for the state competency examination for certification.
